The Your Golf Tour Wildcards for the First Event Have Been Announced
Your Golf Tour is now officially live, with the first video dropping on Grant Horvat’s channel on Monday airing both the inaugural Your Golf Tour Draft, as well as the first round of the opening event at Pursell Farms. Also revealed in that first video were the captains’ wildcards for this event – one player each of their own choosing who will replace a member of their team for the second round (more info on how it all works can be found here). Below, meet each of the four wildcards chosen to sub in for Round Two at Pursell Farms.
John Peterson (Wesley Bryan)
When John Peterson steps onto the first tee at Pursell Farms for Round Two of the first event, he will do so as the most decorated professional on the tour behind only the man who selected him as a wildcard. The 37-year-old from Texas turned pro back in 2011 and played in 93 PGA Tour events, making the cut in more than half of them. Far and away his most significant golfing accomplishment came in 2012, when he finished in a tie for fourth at the US Open, just two shots back from winner Webb Simpson. Now aged 37, however, it’s safe to say that Peterson’s PGA Tour career is firmly in the rear view mirror. His last event at the top level came close to a decade ago, and his professional life now consists of a 'High Stakes Par 3 Golf League’, and managing a garage door service company. Whether or not that’s the optimal warm-up for Your Golf Tour isn’t for me to say, but regardless, with a top-five US Open finish in his resumé Peterson could still be a game-changer for Team Wesley.
Jean Philippe Mehu (George Bryan)
The second wildcard to walk through the YGT doors was Jean Philippe Mehu, or Japes Golf as he is known to his 122,000 Instagram followers. Unlike Peterson, JP Mehu is making a name for himself as a content creator rather than a PGA pro – alongside his aforementioned 122k Instagram followers, he also has 61k followers on TikTok, 14k on YouTube, and is one of the founders of ParYard Golf. Mehu isn’t the biggest name in golf’s creative realm, but he has featured in matches against the likes of Cole Lantz, Malosi and Evan Thompson, so he’s probably on the way up. Of course, followers and famous guests aren’t much use on Your Golf Tour, but fortunately he’s also a very good golfer, boasting a pretty useful handicap of +6.2.
Ben Hadden (Brad Dalke)
Dalke has already built a very Good Good-centric team, picking both Sean Walsh and Garrett Clark in the draft, and that trend continued when former Good Good member Ben Hadden walked through the door as his wildcard. Along with being one of Garrett Clark’s former disciples, Hadden is also a pro golfer and now has his own YouTube channel – cleverly named Ben Hadden Golf – with nearly 100k subscribers. To give you some insights into his ability, Hadden has recently played in a pair of match play videos with YGT’s number one pick, Ryan Ruffels. He beat him in the first, and lost on the 18th in the second. If that’s anything to go by, he will be one of the better players at Pursell Farms.
Michael Block (Grant Horvat)
Michael Block probably needs no introduction, but I’ll give you one anyway. He’s spent most of his working life as a club pro making sporadic appearances in the US Open and PGA Championship, which until 2023 hadn’t yielded much in the way of attention for him – he failed to make the cut in his first six attempts and never finished at better than +8 over two rounds. That all changed in 2023. At that year’s PGA Championship, aged 46, he not only made the cut but finished in a tie for 15th and provided one of the event’s most memorable moments when he slam dunked his final round tee shot on 15alongside none other than Rory McIlroy, and responded with a gentle tipping of his cap. Block hasn’t made the cut in his three attempts at that tournament since, but he has recently made a very competitive appearance on the Seniors Tour. Having played on the Sunday of a major alongside Rory McIlroy, the bright lights of Your Golf Tour should be very manageable for arguably the world’s most famous club pro.
And there you have it – the four inaugural wildcards for Your Golf Tour, each of whom will be involved in some enjoyably awkward moments when their captains are forced to sub out a team member to make space for them. John Peterson, JP Mehu, Ben Hadden and Michael Block will all pull on their slacks for Round Two of the first event at Pursell Farms, which will air on Thursday on the Bryan Bros channel.
