The Full Details of Your Golf Tour Have Been Revealed
Almost six weeks after it was first announced, the details of Your Golf Tour have been revealed. YGT, which will bridge the gap between YouTube and competitive golf, is a Grant Horvat/Bryan Bros-led initiative which will see 16 of the best golfers in the creator realm compete across four events for a hefty prize pool. Already we knew that the structure would include four captains and would conclude at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas with $1 million on the line. Now, the rest of the juicy details have been unveiled.
The Roster
Three of the four captains were, of course, already known, with Grant, George and Wesley each leading a team throughout the tournament. There were a few solid candidates for the fourth and final captain, but it has now officially been announced that it will be, drumroll please, the one and only Brad Dalke!
The other 12 spots will be filled by creators from various channels, all of whom are, as expected, very good at golf. Unsurprisingly, each of the five others who played in the recent Q at Myrtle Beach were on the receiving end of an invite.
Below is the full roster for the first edition of Your Golf Tour.
- Grant Horvat (Captain)
- Wesley Bryan (Captain)
- George Bryan (Captain)
- Brad Dalke (Captain)
- Garrett Clark
- Peter Finch
- Roger Steele
- Luke Kwon
- Ryan Ruffels
- Josh Kelley
- Chance Taylor
- Sam Heung Min
- Tooms
- Sean Walsh
- Taco Golf
- Micah Morris
The Wildcard
While the boys promised us a 16-person roster, that’s not quite where it ends. For each of the first three events, all four of the captains will welcome one ‘wildcard’ to their team, who could be literally anyone on the planet. The wildcard will need to be a different player for every event, and once they’ve been used by one captain they cannot be used again for the duration of the tour, meaning there will be 12 of them in total over the first three events.
But while the captains will be looking to choose wildcards who will help their team, they may also ultimately end up competing against them. Prior to the fourth and final tournament of the tour, there will be a one-day qualifier for those 12 wildcards, the winner of which will earn themselves a spot at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.
The Locations
Which brings us to the where. The Wynn Resort had already been revealed as the location of the final event; here’s where the other three will be played.
- Event #1: Pursell Farms, Alabama
- Event #2: Teeth of the Dog, Dominican Republic
- Event #3: Cutalong at Tributer Resort, Virginia
- Event #4: Wynn Golf Club, Las Vegas
The Money
When the Your Golf Tour concept was unveiled, it was advertised as having a final round with a prize pool of $1 million. That $1 million, however, is only a portion of what will be available throughout the course of the tour.
Each of the first three events will also have $500k total on the line, with that money split among the four teams as follows:
- 4th place: $25,000
- 3rd place: $50,000
- 2nd place: $175,000
- 1st place: $250,000
Bear in mind that those figures will be split among the five players on each team (assuming the wildcards are included), leaving $50k on the line for each individual at every event.
The $1 million available on the final day is also flexible. It’s $1 million at this point, but on their tell-all video, it was noted that if other sponsors get involved, that number could very easily go up.
The Format
The first three tournaments will be played as team events, with those teams being selected by the captains on Draft Night at Pursell Farms just prior to the first event. There are still some gaps in the specifics of how it will operate, but this is the format as we know it so far.
Each event will be split up into three:
- Round One will be shown on Grant Horvat’s channel, and will entail nine holes. Most likely this will be a scramble format, though Wesley caveated this announcement with an ‘I think…’.
- Round Two will then be shown on the Bryan Bros channel, and will be where the wildcard comes into play. Each captain will be responsible for choosing one player on their team to bench for these nine holes, with that player being replaced by the wildcard of their choosing. This round is expected to be played as alternate shot.
- Following these two nine-hole rounds, two teams will be cut, leaving two others to compete for the $250,000. This third and final round will be shown on the Your Golf Tour channel, and all five players on each of these two teams will play (the benched player, the wildcard, plus the other three) as five 1v1 matchups.
As for the final event at the Wynn, that one is still up in the air. The boys have confirmed that it will be an individual event, but they’re still open to feedback regarding the exact format.
And Then What?
Moving forward, Grant, George and Wesley have made it clear that they have grand plans for this tour. They want qualifiers, they want to expand the number of people involved, and they want more events. They’ve also confirmed that at the conclusion of the first incarnation of the tour, they’ll all be forced to boot one player off their team, though presumably that player can subsequently make their way back onto the tour through the qualifiers.
And for the time being, that’s all we know. When it all tees off remains unknown, though based on previous statements it sounds like it will all be unfolding over the next couple of months. We’ll be keeping a keen eye out for any further announcements.
