George Bryan Advances To Final Qualifying For Open Championship
George Bryan has officially advanced through to the Final Qualifying for the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, firing a three-under round of 68 at the Regional Qualifiers at Hesketh to finish in a tie for first. The older half of the popular Bryan Bros duo was on song from start to finish, making three birdies on both the front and back nine to finish two shots inside the qualification range.
In total, 16 Regional Qualifying events took place around the UK on Monday, with the top eight at each making up the 124 players who kept their Open Championship dreams alive. Over at Lindrick, fellow YouTuber Peter Finch was staking his own claim for a place in the Final Qualifying, which he made last year, but a few late-round mistakes proved costly. Finch found himself at -1 through 13 holes, a score which would have seen him finish a couple of shots inside the all-important top eight, but a bogey on 14 followed by a double on 16 saw him tumble to +2, two shots back from eighth place.
But despite Finch’s close miss, the YouTube representation doesn’t end with George. Joining him will be his brother Wesley Bryan, who automatically received a place in the Final Qualifying having played in a previous edition of the Open. As has been well-documented, Wesley is currently suspended from competing on the PGA Tour, but that suspension doesn’t apply to the Open Championship and he will head into the qualifier looking to compete in arguably the most prestigious tournament in golf for the second time, nearly ten years after his first appearance.
With the Final Qualifying set to take place next week, it will be a big few days Bryan Bros in both the professional and YouTube space. The much-anticipated Your Golf Tour, which will see 16 of the best golfers from the creator realm compete across four tournaments, will also finally hit our screens throughout the course of the week, with the first episode to be released on Grant Horvat’s channel on Monday.
The following day, the brothers will take to the course for the Final Qualifying, witht 36 holes standing between the competitors and a spot at Royal Birkdale on Tuesday, 30 June. Those qualifiers will take place across four locations – Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports and West Lancashire – with the top five finishers from each location to qualify.
This year’s Open Championship will be the 154th edition of the event, and will mark the 11th time that it has been held at Royal Birkdale. Play begins on Thursday, 16 July, with the winner of the final major of 2026 to be crowned on Sunday, 19 July.
