GOOD AT GOLF?
Given he rose to prominence with instructional videos, he’d certainly want to be. But yes, Shiels is a pro golfer and PGA-qualified instructor.
WHY IS HE FAMOUS?
Shiels was a pioneer of YouTube Golf, posting short (as in sub-three minute) instructional videos as well as club reviews – not a patch on the content we’re treated to today, but enough to pull a crowd back in 2012.
FUNNY?
Rick’s capable of a good dose of British wit here and there but humour’s not the standout feature of his channel. According to his own website, Rick has a ‘charismatic and relatable personality’ – no points for humility there – but he’s no Robby Berger.
WHO DOES HE COLLAB WITH?
Rick collaborates with plenty of other big-name creators. He’s done numerous videos with the Bob Does Sports crew, Grant Horvat and the Bryan Bros, as well as match-ups against some of the best in the world, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Cam Smith and Anthony Kim.
WHAT'S HE DOING ON A SATURDAY NIGHT?
According to the man himself, Rick used to be very partial to a drink or ten, but has quit the drink as of 2024. He’s got a wife and three kids, so his Saturday night’s are likely a little more tame than they once were.
MELTDOWN POTENTIAL?
Minimal. Tyrell Hatton aside, the Brits aren’t exactly renowned for their outward displays of emotion, and Rick is no exception.
