What’s Changed For the Second Your Golf Tour Event?
The second iteration of Your Golf Tour has officially dropped, with the first round of the event being hosted at the searing hot Rams Hill Golf Club being released on Monday, August 31. And while the first tournament was a raging success, putting up massive viewership numbers, the powers that be have decided to make a few changes for the sequel. Check ‘em out below.
1st and 2nd Place Prize Pool
The overall prize pool for the Rams Hill event will be the same as it was at Pursell Farms, but the distribution will be a little different this time around. The winners will receive $300,000, bumped up from $250,000 in the inaugural event, while the runners-up will receive $125,000, down from $175,000 at Pursell Farms.
This is a logical change. While the $75,000 difference between first and second place in the previous event wasn’t insignificant, when factoring in that it’s split among five players, the difference between winning and losing for each player was just $15k. Again, that’s not nothing, but given these guys are playing for reasonably hefty sums of money it’s not a massive amount. This way, there is now a $35,000 difference per player for winning as opposed to coming second, which means there will be a lot more on the line in the third and final video.
Format Changes
The other major change for this tournament relates to the format, with two entirely new formats and another having switched rounds. Round 1 has changed from scramble to alt shot, while Round 2 will change from alt shot to shamble. And yes, you read that correctly – Round 2 will be a shamble, not a scramble. A scramble, of course, sees each player on a team hit every shot and choose the best one – a shamble, in contrast, essentially follows that format off the tee, with the group choosing their best shot off the tee to play from next. From there, however, each player finishes the hole on their own to get their own score.
The deciding Round 3 will also see a format change. While it will again be a 1 v 1 format between the remaining two teams, it will change from stroke play to match play. This is an interesting one – match play is obviously less likely to reward the better player than stroke play, but it does potentially increase tension. In the first tournament there were a couple of blowout matches, but with match play it’s far more likely that the match will still be alive deep into the 18 holes.
