Mason Greene Finishes T43 at Ecuador Open Despite Strong Start
Mason Greene has finished in a tie for 43rd at the Ecuador Open, finishing at -8 across the four rounds at Quito Tennis and Golf Club. Greene, who has made a name for himself in the YouTube Golf world through his numerous appearances on the Good Good channel, was poised for a higher finish after shooting opening rounds of 68 and 67 to sit at -9 heading into the weekend, but was unable to sustain that form over the final two days with rounds of 73 and 72. He finished 13 shots back from the tied leaders at -21.
Where does Mason Greene sit in the PGA Tour of Americas Points List?
The result yields 12 points for Greene in the PGA Tour of Americas Points List, a modest number compared to the 500 on offer for the winner, but he nonetheless remains in a strong position in the overall list in a tie for third. Event winner Joey Savoie flew past him into second place behind Patrick Flavin, but Greene remains comfortably nestled inside the top ten, in which he needs to finish in order to receive a card on the Korn Ferry Tour – one level below the PGA Tour – for 2027.
Four events into a 15-event season, Greene has compiled 517.7 points, more than double that of 11th place, who currently has 233. Of course, the vast majority of those points came courtesy of Greene’s breakthrough win at the ECP Brazil Open. With points heavily weighted towards the upper echelon of each field, Greene will likely need at least a couple more solid finishes or one very high finish to secure his Korn Ferry card, but he remains well-positioned at this stage of the season.
How many points does Mason Greene need to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour?
With the season still so young, there remains a lot of water to go under the bridge before Greene can secure his Korn Ferry Tour card, but history bodes well for him. Last year, America’s Carson Bacha finished in 10th and subsequently earned a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour with 817 points; the year prior, 794 points was enough for Canada’s Stuart Macdonald to finish 10th.
While there is no guarantee what will be required for a top ten finish this year, those numbers do give a good indication. It’s also worth noting that in both of those years, there was one more tournament than there is in 2026.
With the exception of the final tournament of the year, for which there are slightly more points available, each event on the PGA Tour of America has 500 points on the line for the winner, and 300 for second place – one more top two finish would therefore potentially be enough on its own for Greene to finish in the top ten. Significant points are also available for the rest of the top ten, with each of them earning a minimum of just under 100 points. It’s also worth noting that any player to win three events throughout the course of the season automatically earns a Korn Ferry Tour card, though if Greene were to add two more to his trophy cabinet having already won in Brazil, he would almost certainly comfortably qualify via the points system regardless.
Given where he found himself two rounds in, the Ecuador Open was a lost opportunity for Greene, who with a strong weekend could have put himself in a position from which it would be extremely unlikely for him to fall outside of the top ten in the points list, even this early season. But despite a disappointing weekend and a return of just 12 points, the popular 25-year-old finds himself in an excellent position to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour in 2027, and continue his climb up the rungs of professional golf.
